The Metro FM and Idols presenter, Somizi Mhlongo Mntaung has shared the best gifts that will keep his parents alive with him all the time. The Idols SA judge had planned a third wedding ceremony in Italy on Thursday, as part of a surprise for his husband’s birthday, but the Covid-19 pandemic and funeral of Mary Twala meant the ceremony had to be postponed. Below are Somizi’s best gifts that will keep his parents alive with him.
The jacket of his late Parents
It is a jacket with his late parent’s portrait. The jacket is reportedly designed by a Cape Town-based designer. On Tuesday, Somizi took to social media to share the details of the present.
He started by sharing how he bumped into the designer on Instagram and how their discussion moved until it got to the part when he received the jacket.
‘’When the parcel arrived today I was wondering why is it in a big box kanti this sweet talented young man added an actual framed portrait of my mom and as a surprise gift…coz I only paid for the jacket and the drawing on it…I’m probably going to wear this once and frame it as well…’’
A portrait of His Late Mother
Radio and television host Somizi Mhlongo-Motaung has also been gifted a portrait of his late mother, thespian Mary Twala.
Taking to his social media on Tuesday, Somizi expressed his gratitude to the artist who painted the portrait of his parent, and said: “So when I saw a painting of my mom on twitter by this young man @olwethudahandsome immediately drawn to it……and that’s when I had an idea of him making a portrait of my parents on a denim jacket.”
“I initially I wanted to wear it at my mom’s funeral but because he is based in cape town time was not on our side…..but I still insisted that he makes it…..through the help of my PA (Personal Assistant) he was able to track him and found him and gave him the brief…..oh boy did he deliver……when the parcel arrived today.

Somizi’s Mother, Mary Twala, passed away on Saturday, July 4, and was laid to rest on Thursday, July 9. She was 80-years old.
Unfortunately, Twala died in Johannesburg last week at the age of 80. May her soul rest in perfect peace.
During her funeral, Somizi has paid a very emotional tribute to her. He said: “I know I have lost a mother on earth, but I have gained the most powerful ancestor.”
The idols Judge continued and said: “Anyone should not be surprised when I rise beyond, because I have the most generous ancestor. Mama, I know how you are when you are angry, so I promise not to be make you an angry ancestor because I don’t want to be on the wrong side of anything that comes to you.”
