What is Skeem Saam About?
Skeem Saam is a South African soap opera created by Winnie Serite, broadcast on SABC1 since 2011. The show is set in Johannesburg and Turfloop. It rose to fame since it arrived, competing with Generations. A majority youth-centered show, Skeem Saam is a SABC Education production. It has been running for 10 seasons. In January 2021, the SABC announced that the show would go on a production break starting on 1 March 2021 due to a massive decline in viewership.
The story follows the lives of the residents of Turfloop who face daily trials and tribulations as they climb the ladder to success. It also follows the lives of the rich in Johannesburg and how they handle the challenges they face in their businesses and also follows the lives of the rich and poor staying in Turfloop.
Winnie Serite is the creator of the South African soap opera Skeem Saam, which has been airing on SABC1 since 2011. Since it arrived, it has become more well-known, competing with Generations.
The narrative is basically about the struggles and issues that Turfloop residents experience as they go up the success ladder. Together with the lifestyles of the rich in Johannesburg and how they manage the various difficulties they encounter, it also follows the rich and poor community of Turfloop.

Skeem Saam Casting Process
Casting for the following characters is expected to happen:
- Young students (aged 18 – 25).
- Security personnel (25 and older).
- Academic Staff (25 and older).
- Lecturers (30 and older) (30 and older).
- Tutors (24 and older) (24 and older).
- Possible parent pairings (40 and older)
The show holds its Auditions in Hammanskraal and Johannesburg, and they normally look for men and women from all of South Africa’s linguistic groupings.
They use the following location to host the auditions in Hammanskraal: MANDELA VILLAGE Hammanskraal Community Hall/Sports Grounds.
Auditions For the Johannesburg take place at BASSLINE in Newtown.
