Connie Ferguson’s Ongoing Battle With Chronic Depression

Connie Ferguson’s Ongoing Battle With Chronic Depression. Connie Ferguson is one of the South African icons in the entertainment industry. She is well known for her role as Karaboon the SABC 1 Soap opera Generations.

Connie has recently been on the cover of the April issue of Glamour Magazine where she opened up about her struggle with depression. In the mind and body themed issue, Ferguson shared a very intimate secret that she has been silently struggling with depression.

The Queen Mzansi actress has revealed that she suffers from chronic depression but in recent times has found the light at the end of the tunnel by ditching the antidepressants and adopting healthy ways to overcome the dark times.
“I usually get depressed during the winter, but this the first time in two years that I haven’t been on antidepressants and it’s mainly due to exercise.”

Study.com described Chronic depression is a long-lasting (at least two years) condition that causes people to feel unhappy and hopeless most of the time.

People who suffer from persistent depression often have symptoms such as hopelessness, low self-esteem, lack of productivity and a gloomy personality.

Connie’s depression was so bad at one point that she had to take antidepressants.

“I usually get depressed during winter, but this is the first time in two years that I haven’t been on antidepressants and it’s mainly due to exercise,” she told Glamour magazine.

She also explained the reason why she enjoys exercising. Connie tries, by all means, to work out five days a week to not only keep fit but help her cope with her depression.

Connie is not the only South African star who opened up about dealing with depression. Other celebrities like Salamina Mosese, Minnie Dlamini, Lalla Hirayama, Gigi Lamayne, Trevor Noah and more have also talked about their ongoing battle with depression.
