Unathi was right about South African men

Unathi was right about South African men

Last week Idols judge and Kaya FM host, Unathi Nkayi, weighed in on how unsafe South African women are in the streets of the country. The media personality further lashed out on men for making women uncomfortable wherever they are. Her lashing out was propelled by an incident where a young lady was harassed by taxi drivers just because she wore short clothes.

“My question is where do you feel unsafe and when? For example, there was that lady who was trending. She was walking through a taxi rank wearing jeans and a crop top, and people saying she deserved to be treated that way… Molested basically, verbally and physically because of what she was wearing something some people did not agree with, ” Unathi said during an Instagram live TV.

Could Unathi have been right about Mzansi men making women uncomfortable? When Daniel Marven shared a picture of an innocent curvy girl walking, saying, “Mara guys are making females to walk uncomfortable on streets… SHAME Maan,” it became evident that women might not win this battle.

Men commenting on Daniel’s post were saying that the lady should have dressed properly to avoid being stared at. But honestly, there was nothing wrong with the way the lady was dressed.

Last week, a pastor offended many women when he mentioned that women who dance to the John Vuli Gate song will be victims of gender based violence. Where will women ever be safe? Our generation of men weren’t taught well and the next generation is following our steps.
